quick bio:
My name is Laurence Lanier. I’m a Commercial Cinematographer and Filmmaker based out of Jacksonville, FL. In 2014, I was given my first video gig: Filming the Sunday sermons at my local church for $0.00 an hour. Admittedly, looking back, it wasn’t the most lucrative position but it was there that my passion for film was realized. Fast forward a few months later when I first discovered the wonders of Adobe Premiere Pro. That was the catalyst. Every day of that year was devoted to learning the inner-workings and mechanics of editing within Premiere until that fixation graduated to include Adobe After Effects as well. It was also that year that I began filming spec ads and micro-budget projects. By September of 2014, having produced a couple dozen spec ads, I was fully committed to developing a career in this industry.
Every day from that point on became about film. I had gotten a good grasp on editing and the fundamentals of composition and now my curiosity was fixated on all of the other aspects of filmmaking. How do colors affect emotion? How do you set tone and tell a story with camera movement? What are the core elements of a pleasing image? These types of questions occupied my mind day in and day out. Every time I’d figure one out, another would take its place. After a three-and-a-half year cycle of researching and shooting small-budget ads, I started playing around with the idea of shooting videos full-time. Eventually, I decided to go for it. In 2017, I became a full-time cinematographer. With every project, my skills continued to grow along with my dedication to the craft. Fast forward seven years later and the same is still true today.
